Datasul originated as an independent ERP built specifically for industrial environments in southern Brazil, with a heritage dating to 1986.

TOTVS acquired Datasul in 2008 and added it to the ERP portfolio. It remains the go-to option for complex manufacturing environments that require rigorous production control, MRP, and cost management (particularly where standardised processes and governance take precedence over flexibility).

Datasul's standardised process model suits industrial businesses that benefit from strong operational governance. Its foreign trade module (which covers imports, exports, drawback, and currency exchange) is more developed than what Protheus offers out of the box, a point to consider for manufacturers with international supply chains.
